Plunge into a psychoanalytical interpretation of the famous Perrault tale which is both aesthetic and fierce. Jean-Christophe Maillot has endeavoured to strip off the sugar coating in which Disney had covered La Belle to offer us a ballet which directly engages with our childhood, our fears and our desires. Thus we discover the second part of Perrault’s tale, often overlooked, where La Belle’s awakening and her marriage to the Prince is not the end of the story. This part is dark and terrifying: The Princess, now Queen, and her children are threatened by her mother-in-law, the Ogress Carabosse.
