Official opening of the SPA of Monaco in Peille
T.S.H. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène, President of the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) in Monaco, attended the official opening of the non-profit’s new shelter in the town of Peille on Monday 16 September 2024.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the Monegasque and French authorities, along with members of the Board of Directors and staff from SPA Monaco as well as project partners and the mayor of Peille, Cyril Piazza.
The inauguration marks a key milestone in the Principality’s commitment to abandoned and abused animals, two years after the foundation-laying ceremony on 12 September 2022 by T.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and Princess Charlène.
Built in just 24 months on a natural site at an altitude of 700 metres, the shelter is a haven for animals in distress. It can accommodate up to 40 dogs, including 6 in quarantine conditions, and around 50 cats (7 in quarantine conditions). The shelter will also be able to accommodate new types of pets and birds on an ad hoc basis.
