New Moods: an institution is reborn

Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has been creating shows since 1879 and is about to reopen its cosiest concert hall, which spotlighted young talent from the local rock & folk scene from 2008 to 2011.

Moods, whose return was eagerly awaited by the whole of Monaco, is now New Moods. This mythical venue will open on 5 December on Place du Casino, after being officially inaugurated on 30 November, and will be directed by Stéphane Lobono.

The programme will include live music, rock, folk, blues, DJ sets and stand-up comedy, as well as finger food prepared by the chef. This revival is the brainchild of Stéphane Valeri, Chairman & CEO of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, with the aim of continuing to develop the Group’s upbeat offer in the Principality, particularly during the low season.

Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer welcomed its first artists in the Monte-Carlo Opera in 1879. The greatest composers, like Massenet, Saint-Saëns, Bizet and others, were to be found in Monte-Carlo. Jazz made its entrance in the 1920s, followed by music-hall and variety in 1931 on the first floating stage at Sporting d’été, before the arrival of clubbing in Jimmy’z Monte-Carlo at the turn of the 1970s. The artistic offering of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has grown with the times for one and a half centuries.

Alongside the major venues and musical events, Moods made its appearance on Place du Casino in 2008, like something from another planet. This small hall open to the local music scene, bursting with energy and offering proximity and interaction with the public was something completely new.  After more than 10 years of absence, Moods is returning, in a new décor and with a new formula. New Moods will open on 5 December 2024 at 6.00pm. 

New Moods: after-work, live music, stand-up comedy and finger food 

The cosy and mellow performance hall, almost hidden underneath the iconic Café de Paris, is dressed in red and golden velvet. The stage is still in direct contact with the audience. Musical instruments have joined this chic and unpretentious atmosphere, including the electric guitar Showster, belonging to the late Jean-René Palacio, Artistic Director of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer from 1999 to 2021.

New Moods places emphasis on tributes and covers of pop, rock and blues legends. The mood is festive, multi-generational, driven by talented musicians from near and far, such as Supersoul Brothers, Sticky Fingers and The Beatbox.

Comedy lovers take note: stand-up shows will be organised from time to time too.  For this first season, comedians Tareek and Hassan de Monaco are already scheduled.

What to expect from a night at New Moods:

. From 6.00pm to 8.30pm: musical after-work with a DJ set

. From 8.45pm: a live show-concert in two or three parts, or stand-up

. From the end of the show until midnight: DJ set

Finger food by Marcel Ravin

The new formula of New Moods proposes a Finger food menu by Marcel Ravin, two-star awarded chef from the Blue Bay. You can share (or not) Truffle Brie nougatine with fruits, Monte-Cristo Croque, Fried smelt with tartar sauce flavoured with  Espelette pepper, “Coconut / Peanut Passion fruit” Rochers de Marcel , Fresh fruit brochette or Home-made  ice cream.

In the bar, a number of signature cocktails are offered: New Moods Cuban, Havana 7, Sugar, Lime Juice, Mint leaf, Angostura Bitter, Champagne, Raspberry Fool, Gordons Gin, Chambord, Lemon Juice, Egg white, Raspberry, and Sweet Mexican, Casa migos Reposado, Apricot juice, Lime juice, Sugar, Angostura bitter. 

Not forgetting the famous Havana 3 and Havana 7 rums and the “Marcel Ravin” Rhum Clément, created especially for the opening of Blue Bay Marcel Ravin, with cocoa, leather and vanilla aromas. 

New Moods is a seasonal venue that aims to bring the after-season to life on Place du Casino. It will be open from 5 December 2024 to 29 March 2025 and then every year from October until the end of March, Thursday to Saturday, 6.00pm to midnight. 

The magic of New Moods is not limited to its opening nights: the venue can be fully privatised outside of opening days for all kinds of celebrations, for children and adults. Anything is possible at New Moods!
