The best of boxing returns to the Principality with the Monte-Carlo Boxing Showdown
On December 14, the Sporting Monte-Carlo will be buzzing with excitement during the fifth edition of the Monte-Carlo Showdown.
A series of four fights in which four English boxing stars will take part at the Salle des Etoiles: Ferreira, Akhmadaliev, Clarke and Cully. All will step into the Monte-Carlo ring, and two of them will even try to win one of the two world titles at stake during this evening broadcast live around the world, on the DAZN streaming service.
Much more than a simple championship, the Monte-Carlo Boxing Showdown, created in 2017 by Matchroom in partnership with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, is above all a thrilling spectacle, celebrating all the art of this discipline in an exceptional setting. This year, the following will compete:
. Brazilian amateur-turned-pro star Beatriz Ferreira (5-0) will make her first defence of her IBF lightweight world title against former French European champion Licia Boudersa (23-2-2, 4 KOs), after beating Yanina del Carmen Lescano in Liverpool earlier this year. Nicknamed ‘The Beast’, a former amateur world champion, won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics before signing a long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn for Matchroom Boxing in 2022. The 31-year-old tried to go one better by winning gold in Paris this summer, but ultimately fell to champion Kellie Harrington in the semi-finals.
. Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev (12-1, 9 KOs), a former IBF and WBA Super Bantamweight world champion, will attempt to become a double world champion when he takes on Mexican Ricardo Espinoza Franco (30-4, 25 KOs) for the WBA interim Super Bantamweight world title. “MJ” has defended the IBF and WBA world titles three times, winning them against Daniel Roman in Miami in January 2020 before losing them by split decision to Marlon Tapales in the Jesse Rodriguez vs. Cristian Gonzalez match at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas, last year.
. For this fifth edition, British light-heavyweight champion Chev Clarke (10-0, 7 KOs) will look to build on his successful US debut last August when he takes on undefeated Frenchman Leonardo Mosquea (15-0, 9 KOs) for the vacant EBU European light-heavyweight title.
The powerful ‘C4’ is looking to end 2024 on a high note after stopping former Belfast European champion Tommy McCarthy at the Ulster Hall in January, knocking out Ellis Zorro in eight rounds to win the famous Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belt at the First Direct Arena in Leeds in May, and then beating Efetobor Apochi by decision in ten tough rounds in Los Angeles in August.
. Irishman Gary Cully (18-1, 10 KOs) puts his WBA continental title on the line against Rossington’s Maxi Hughes (27-7-2, 6 KOs) in a very interesting Ireland vs England match. ‘The Diva’ beat Belgium’s former European champion Francesco Patera in Leeds in his last outing in May, while ‘Maximus’ claimed an impressive stoppage victory over Efstathios Antonas in Sheffield last month.

Ahead of what promises to be a memorable double-header, Groupe Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer CEO Albert Manzone said: “For over a century, our Group has been the essential partner of the Principality of Monaco’s biggest sporting events. We are delighted to once again welcome the Monte-Carlo Showdown, presented by the Casino de Monte-Carlo, which will take place for this 2024 edition at the Sporting Monte-Carlo, in the prestigious Salle des Etoiles.” »
“I can’t wait to return to Monte Carlo for a fantastic night of world championship boxing on 14th December,” commented Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Sport. “Two exciting world title clashes, a European title fight between two unbeaten contenders and a great Ireland v England clash, the Monte Carlo Showdown V will provide a spectacle for all fans of top-class boxing! Follow all the action live around the world on DAZN.”
