Private insurance can be requested for many purposes during your stay in the Principality of Monaco. The majority of insurance companies offer international health insurance for the territory of the European Union, however, it is recommended to check whether your provider will cover the Principality of Monaco, because Monaco is a country outside of the European Union. You may be required to extend your cover to include Monaco.

For those who are aiming to change insurance, there are some minor things to consider.

The first consideration is whether to use personal insurance, business insurance or a combination of both.

Secondly, make sure you compare the benefits of having European insurance or specific Monégasque insurance; this could be interesting when international health costs apply.

In the case that you are not just relocating, but working as well in the Principality of Monaco, you can find yourself in a much better situation. Monaco offers 80-100% refunds on health care expenditure for employees and their families, since its public welfare system is funded by employers’ contributions.

The Monaco Social Security Fund offers Monaco-based employees and employers the “C.S.M.” app for tablets and smartphones, which allows them a clear view on their benefits. Once this app is installed on the smartphone of their spouse / children’s F.S.E. card (electronic health records), they can benefit from the same services at their medical appointments.
