On 10 July 2026, H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano, Monaco’s Ambassador to Germany, hosted a reception at the Waldorf Astoria Berlin in honour of the 21st anniversary of the accession of H.S.H. Prince Albert II. This year’s reception held particular significance, as it also marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Principality and Germany.

Held in the presence of Mrs Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the reception brought together nearly 300 guests. Attendees included Mr Christoph Israng, Director-General for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office; more than 70 ambassadors; prominent figures from the economic, financial and cultural sectors; and friends of the Principality. Several of Monaco’s Honorary Consuls –from Munich, Hamburg, Potsdam and Düsseldorf– also attended, alongside the President of the International German Club and around 30 of its members.

Mrs Isabelle Berro-Amadeï opened the reception with a warm remark:
“As the former Ambassador of Monaco to Germany –from 2015 to 2019– it is a great pleasure for me to be back in Berlin to mark two important occasions. Today, we celebrate the 21st anniversary of the accession of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Monaco and Germany.”

In her address, Mrs Berro-Amadeï highlighted the strength of the relationship between the two countries and the wide range of areas in which they cooperate. The most recent example was the inauguration by the Princely Family, on 29 June, of a Monaco-themed area within Europa-Park, Germany’s leading tourist attraction. The Minister also emphasised the values shared by Monaco and Germany, including their commitment to multilateralism.
“Seventy-five years ago, our two nations established formal diplomatic ties based on mutual respect, friendship, and a shared commitment to peace and international cooperation. Our relationship has grown steadily stronger, adapting to changing times while remaining rooted in common values.”

H.E. Mr. Maurice LOZE oversaw a delegation created on October 16th, 1951, which became an Embassy in August 1983.
7 Ambassadors of Monaco have been accredited to Germany since then.
“Germany has long been an important partner for Monaco. Beyond our diplomatic relations, our countries are connected through economic exchanges, scientific cooperation, cultural dialogue, and strong people-to-people ties. Almost 900 Germans have settled in Monaco while thousands of Germans visit the Principality every year. The German international Club of Monaco was founded more than 50 years ago and as I can see, more than 20 members have come, especially from Monaco today!
The friendship between our nations reflects a broader European spirit: a belief that cooperation across borders creates prosperity, stability, and opportunity for future generations. And this was precisely the spirit of my meeting with Minister Johann Wadephul this morning.
We greatly value Germany’s leadership and engagement in addressing global challenges, particularly in areas such as environmental protection, renewable energy, scientific research, and humanitarian action. Germany and Monaco have both demonstrated that nations of different sizes can make meaningful contributions to global efforts. Through innovation, responsible stewardship, and international cooperation, we can help build a more sustainable future for all.
Under the leadership of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the Principality remains deeply committed to multilateralism. Monaco has assumed the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe since last May 15th, for the first time since we joined this Organization in 2004. Our action will be guided by the following vision: “Protecting everyone through an effective Organization to address current challenges”.
Today is also an opportunity to celebrate the human dimension of our relationship. Diplomatic relations are not measured only by treaties or official visits. As the ongoing historical pictures and documents on the screens show, many encounters have strengthen our friendship, our academic exchanges, artistic collaborations, business partnerships, and the countless personal connections that have brought our societies closer together.” – emphasized Mrs Berro-Amadeï.”

Concluding her speech, Mrs Berro-Amadeï expressed her warmly thank their German partners, the Ambassador of Monaco in Berlin and his team, and all those who have contributed to the success of our bilateral relationship over the past seventy-five years. She said that “Their dedication has helped transform diplomatic ties into a genuine and enduring friendship.”
Mr Christoph Israng, for his part, praised the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of science and ocean protection. He also highlighted several success stories and shared connections, particularly in the world of sport, including German sailor Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia.
After listening to the two national anthems, performed by two members of the Berlin Diplomatic Choir, guests were invited to watch a slideshow illustrating 75 years of shared history between Monaco and Germany.

Bilateral Meeting
Organised as part of the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Principality and Germany, Monaco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mrs Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, met with her German counterpart, Mr Johann Wadephul, at the Federal Foreign Office.

The bilateral meeting highlighted the strength and excellence of the relationship between the two countries and provided an opportunity to discuss several matters of mutual interest.
The Ministers notably emphasised their shared values and the importance both countries attach to innovation, climate issues, ocean protection and cooperation on economic, scientific and cultural projects. Mr Wadephul congratulated the Principality on its chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and commended its support for the accountability mechanism for Ukraine.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation was accompanied by H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano, Monaco’s Ambassador to Germany, as well as Mr Jean-Laurent Imbert and Ms Tatiana El Khoury, diplomats serving at the Embassy.

Diplomatic relations between the Principality and Germany were established in October 1951 with the creation of a Legation, which was elevated to the rank of Embassy in August 1983.
Monaco’s Ambassador to Germany currently coordinates a consular network comprising six Honorary Consuls, based in Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Potsdam, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart. Together, they contribute to the Principality’s prestige and visibility throughout Germany.

The diplomatic reception also offered guests a “taste” of Monaco through gift bags filled with products from the Principality. During his speech, H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano publicly acknowledged the reception’s supporters:
Mrs. Nour Malas, creator of Anour Chocolate, a brand embodying culinary excellence born in Monaco,
Mr. Alessandro Giuliani, Honorary Consul of Poland in Monaco and founder of Giuliani Foods, the healthy food of excellence,
And Mr. Zsolt Szemerszky, founder and co-owner of Living in Monaco magazine, and an entrepreneur dedicated to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and international collaboration from and with the Principality of Monaco.
The previous evening, on 9 July 2026, a private gathering was held in the Presidential Suite of the Waldorf Astoria Berlin. The occasion featured Champagne Claudia Cherki, a distinctive Monaco champagne brand combining elegance with exclusivity.

H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano also highlighted the generous support of Mrs Tracy Wong, founder of Averell and a Monaco-based attorney with more than 15 years of experience in commodities trading. The Ambassador also welcomed Mr Patrick Wetzel and the valued members of the German International Club of Monaco.
“Speaking about the German International Club of Monaco, I wish to thank all the members for gifting me a wonderful vegetable moss frame commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Monaco and Germany, made by the German company Moos &Moos,” – said H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano.
